Zelenskyy reports 11 civilian deaths in missile attack, calls for more sanctions NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has denounced a Russian missile attack on eastern Ukraine that he says killed 11 civilians, and called for international sanctions against Russian missile makers.

In a video message released on Tuesday, Zelenskyy also hailed advancements by Ukrainian forces at Bakhmut in the eastern region of Donetsk and in the country's south.

The president called the missile attack on his hometown, Kryvyi Rih in the eastern region of Dnipropetrovsk, a "terrorist" act, and said the 11 people who died included a child.

On the same day, the US Department of Defense announced additional military support for Ukraine worth up to 325 million dollars.

The latest package includes extra munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems, or NASAMS, as well as ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS, and 15 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles.

Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said the assistance will bolster Ukraine's efforts to retake its territory.
