Workers have moved furniture and other items to storage from a temporary housing complex for quake survivors in central Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture that flooded during torrential rains last month.

People dispatched from an employment center for senior citizens on Sunday worked at the Takudamachi 2nd apartment complex in Wajima City. The housing is one of six facilities in Wajima and Suzu cities that need to be cleaned and disinfected after floods.

The apartments were built for people affected by the powerful New Year's Day earthquake.

Most of the residents at the Takudamachi 2nd apartment complex moved to emergency shelters and other accommodation after the rains.

The workers received the keys in advance from the residents, and transported their furniture and home appliances to a nearby elementary school.

The employment center says it received about 30 requests for furniture removal for Sunday alone, and that the items will be stored until the renovation work is completed.
