The chair of the Group of 20 summit, Brazil, has released the G20 leaders' declaration that calls for eradicating various forms of global inequalities. The summit is taking place in Rio de Janeiro. Japan's Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru is among the participants. The leaders were due to adopt a declaration on Tuesday to close the summit. But Brazil released it on Monday, noting that participants had agreed to the content. In reaffirming the role of the G20, the declaration said that G20 leaders remain committed to support developing countries in responding to global crises and challenges and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. It also stated the leaders recognize that inequality within and among countries is at the root of most global challenges they face. It added, "The world requires not only urgent action, but also socially just, environmentally sustainable and economically sound measures." Without naming any country, the declaration said all states must refrain from the threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state. It also condemned all attacks against civilians and infrastructure. On climate change, the declaration reaffirmed the temperature targets set out in the Paris Agreement. The agreement aims to hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to limit temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Monday's declaration reiterated G20 leaders' resolve to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
