The United Nations has been conducting polio vaccinations for children amid pauses in fighting between Israel and Hamas in areas of central Gaza. The UN launched the vaccination campaign in the enclave on Sunday amid concerns of a further spread of polio due to poor hygiene. UNRWA, a UN agency for Palestinian refugees, says the campaign was still continuing in the central region on Wednesday, and more than 180,000 children have received the first vaccine. UNRWA says it was making good progress so far and no fighting to disrupt vaccinations has been confirmed. The campaign will move to southern areas on Thursday. But local media are reporting that Israeli forces continued their attacks in Khan Younis and Rafah in the south on Wednesday. The focus of attention is on whether fighting can come to a halt in the south without fail. Saturday will mark 11 months since the start of the fighting in Gaza. Local health officials say 40,819 people have died since.
