Russian forces unleashed a barrage of missile strikes on Ukraine this week with an intensity unseen since the early days of the invasion. They've killed at least 37 civilians, and injured more than 100. The Russians have hit targets across the country, many with no military purpose. The attacks are adding urgency to calls for air defenses to protect cities and towns. The governor of Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region said a crowded market was struck on Wednesday, leaving at least seven people dead and eight injured. He added that there was "no military logic" for the attack. Defense officials from more than 50 countries gathered at the NATO headquarters in Brussels to discuss Ukraine. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Russia's strikes have further united the international community to support the country. Austin said Ukraine has made extraordinary gains on the battlefield and Ukrainian forces have changed the dynamics of the war despite Putin's new assaults. He said the Ukrainians have liberated hundreds of towns from Russian occupation and have taken thousands of square kilometers of land. The officials confirmed they will continue supporting Ukraine's military. Also on Wednesday, the head of the world's nuclear watchdog said external power to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine has been restored. It had been cut when Russian attacks damaged a substation.
