Japan's largest opposition group, the Constitutional Democratic Party, is getting ready to choose its next leader. Diet lawmakers are voting Monday for the role. Four candidates are running in the race for the CDP leadership. They are former prime minister Noda Yoshihiko, former president of the party Edano Yukio, current leader Izumi Kenta, and rookie lawmaker Yoshida Harumi. The CDP is holding a special convention at 1 p.m. in Tokyo where Diet lawmakers are voting. Local assembly and general party members as well as supporters had until Sunday to cast ballots. The candidates have shared their visions for how to change the government. They also laid out measures for political reform as well as foreign and security policies. The main ruling Liberal Democratic Party meanwhile will choose its next leader on Friday.
