A: Hey! Did you hear about what happened in Sydney? It’s so sad!
B: No! What’s going on?
A: There was a terrible shooting at Bondi Beach. Sixteen people died, including one of the attackers.
B: Wow, that’s awful! When did it happen?
A: Yesterday evening. It was around 7 p.m.
B: And why were people there?
A: It was during Hanukkah celebrations for the Jewish community.
B: Seriously? That’s just… horrible timing.
A: Yeah! Apparently, two men did it. There's footage of them on a bridge, shooting at people.
B: No way! And did anyone try to stop them?
A: Actually, yes! Someone bravely disarmed one of the attackers! They’re being called a hero.
B: That's amazing! So who were the attackers?
A: They were a father and son. The police shot the dad. The son is in the hospital now.
B: Oh my gosh… It’s being treated as a terrorist attack, right?
A: That’s what they’re saying. There’s been a rise in antisemitism since the conflict in Israel started last year.
B: That's so worrying. What’s the government doing?
A: The Prime Minister wants to make gun laws stricter. Fewer guns per person, I think.
B: Makes sense, given the situation. I hope everyone is okay.
A: Me too. Synagogues everywhere are increasing security too, for Hanukkah.
