The deputy head of Ukraine's presidential office and Japan's ambassador to Kyiv have confirmed the two countries will continue to cooperate in the energy sector. The presidential office said on Wednesday that Oleksiy Kuleba had met with Ambassador Matsuda Kuninori in Kyiv. Sources say the meeting was held on Tuesday. Kuleba told Matsuda that Japan's assistance in the energy sector is more valuable than ever, saying this winter will be harder than the last one as Russia will continue to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Kuleba also pointed to the urgent need to equip bomb shelters in educational institutions ahead of the new school term that begins next month, to give children the opportunity to study and ensure their safety. He expressed expectations for Japan's support in this area. The sources say the ambassador conveyed the G7's views on how to promote the restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine. Japan is the current chair of the Group of Seven nations. Matsuda told NHK he had conveyed the importance of strengthening the authority of local governments in achieving Ukraine's reconstruction. He expressed hope for closer cooperation between the two countries.
