Japan's Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi says he will host a trilateral meeting with his counterparts from China and South Korea in Tokyo on Saturday. Iwaya announced on Tuesday that the meeting will be attended by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul. Iwaya said he will also meet them separately. A high-level economic dialogue of relevant ministers from Japan and China is also scheduled for the first time in six years. Iwaya described Japan, China and South Korea as important neighbors with a huge influence and responsibility over regional and international peace and prosperity. He expressed his hope for a frank exchange of views and discussions to promote future-oriented cooperation. Iwaya said the series of talks with China will be aimed at comprehensively promoting a mutually beneficial relationship based on common strategic interests, and forging constructive and stable ties. He said Japan hopes to confirm that the two countries will work together to reduce challenges and concerns and increase cooperation and partnerships. China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told reporters in Beijing on Tuesday that through the upcoming economic dialogue with Japan, the two countries will aim to boost partnerships in macro policies, determine key areas of cooperation and set the course for collaborative efforts.
