An underwater search will be resumed on Tuesday to find a missing crew member of a sunken Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ship. The JMSDF minesweeper Ukushima caught fire in waters off Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan, on Sunday and sank in the morning the following day. Petty Officer 3rd Class Koga Tatsunori, age 33, remains missing. He was on duty in the minesweeper's engine room. The coast guard on Monday afternoon sent divers to the scene, but failed to find the missing crew member. The coast guard says it plans to resume the underwater search from Tuesday morning, while ships will continue searching overnight. The JMSDF says the fire is believed to have started in the engine room, but there were no abnormalities found with the ship during a regular inspection that finished in July. It also says it will set up a panel to investigate the incident and plan to salvage the vessel.
