South Korea&#039;s ruling and opposition party leaders were busy making their final appeal to voters for support on Tuesday, the last day before ballots are cast in the country&#039;s general election.
                
The elections are held every four years. This year&#039;s election is seen as a midterm assessment of the administration of President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has been in office for two years.
                
Ruling People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon said in a speech in Seoul that his party was just one vote short of winning. He urged people to go to the polls to protect South Korea.
                
The leader of the main opposition Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung said under the administration of President Yoon Suk-yeol, South Korea has declined in all areas, including the economy, diplomacy and democracy.  He called on people to stop the ruling party from getting a majority in parliament.
                
The ruling People Power Party and main opposition Democratic Party aim to attract enough votes to become parliament&#039;s largest force.
                
But experts say both parties have just exchanged criticisms in their campaigns and not focused on debating the issues, including the low birthrate and inflation.
                
Polling stations close at 6 p.m. local time Wednesday. Preliminary results are expected early Thursday morning.
