Sounds of gunshots and shelling continued to be heard in the Sudanese capital Khartoum even as Sudan's warring factions announced a three-day truce. The Sudanese military and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces said they agreed to a truce on Friday, a Muslim holiday marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. But fighting was still reported into Saturday. Both sides are criticizing each other. It is unclear if the truce will be observed as previous ceasefire attempts have failed. The RSF said on social media on Friday that it was willing to allow all airports to partially reopen to let foreign nationals evacuate safely. It remains to be seen whether the airports will actually reopen as the military has not made an announcement on it. Also, it is unclear how much control the RSF has over the airports. Violence broke out between the military, which took power in a 2021 coup, and the RSF on April 15. The World Health Organization said 413 people had been killed and more than 3,500 injured as of Friday.
