Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stressed that he wants to proceed with relocation of Gaza residents.



Netanyahu held talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday to discuss the Gaza conflict among other issues.



Netanyahu expressed his support for Trump's proposal that the US should take over Gaza and resettle its residents elsewhere.



The prime minister said people in Gaza are locked in, so "what is wrong with giving people a choice?"



He also said some countries are saying, "If Gazans want to leave, we want to take them in."



The United Nations and European countries have been opposing the idea of relocating Palestinians from Gaza, saying it violates international law.



Netanyahu's remarks on Monday are likely to draw more protests from Arab nations.



On stalled ceasefire talks with Hamas, Netanyahu said, "We're working now on another deal that we hope will succeed. And we're committed to getting all the hostages out."



Hamas reportedly agreed to a proposal by Egypt and other parties. Israel is said to have presented a counterproposal that demands the release of more hostages.
