Torrential rain has triggered floods in quake-hit southern Turkey, killing at least 14 people. Floods swept through the provinces of Adiyaman and Sanliurfa on Wednesday. Local authorities say they have confirmed the deaths of 14 people and are searching for five others who are missing. They say a container used as a shelter was washed away by floodwater. Footage from the region shows cars swept away and people rescued from an inundated underpass. The magnitude 7.8 quake on February 6 and ensuing tremors have killed more than 48,000 people in Turkey. The Turkish government plans to provide about 320,000 public housing units within a year to people who have lost their homes. But 1.5 million people are still living in tents. Weather officials say southern Turkey may also have heavy rain on Thursday. Disaster-preparedness authorities are calling on residents to continue to be on the alert for flooding and other types of disaster.
