A fire broke out on an expressway near South Korea's capital Seoul on Thursday, killing at least five people and injuring 37 others. Local authorities said the fire started from a truck on the Second Gyeongin Expressway in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, shortly before 2 p.m. Footage aired by South Korea's public broadcaster KBS showed large portions of the roof of a noise-barrier tunnel in flames, with plumes of smoke rising from it. The fire was extinguished in about two hours. Local media initially reported six deaths, but disaster officials later corrected the death toll to five. The officials said three people sustained serious injuries while 34 others suffered smoke inhalation and other injuries. They also said 45 vehicles burned in the fire. South Korean media reported that initial findings showed the fire started after a bus and a truck collided, and quickly spread in the tunnel.
