Japan's May industrial output rises for 1st gain in 2 months NHK

A: Hey, have you heard the latest on Japan's industry?

B: Not yet, what's up?

A: Well, it looks like industrial production saw a rise for the first time in two months, yay! It was mainly led by auto parts and passenger vehicles.

B: Wow, that's great! What exactly happened though?

A: Total output increased 0.5 percent from the previous month, and nine out of fifteen industries surveyed saw growth. Production machinery had the largest increase at 5.6 percent.

B: That sounds impressive! What about the other sectors?

A: General-purpose and commercial machinery grew 4.5 percent, mostly due to increased output of compressors. The auto manufacturing also climbed by 2.5 percent thanks to brisk sales of passenger vehicles.

B: So it seems like everything is going up! What's the forecast for June?

A: There are expectations for further gains in industrial production for June, but a decline is expected in July.

B: Well, let's hope it stays positive from now on then! But what about longer term? Is there any uncertainty?

A: Ministry officials say that US tariff policies might be adding to the uncertainties for companies setting future production plans.

B: Oh, that could be tricky. I guess we'll have to wait and see how things unfold!
