Qatar-based satellite TV network Al Jazeera has announced that it will refer the recent killing of one of its cameramen in the Gaza Strip to the International Criminal Court. Al Jazeera and other media outlets reported that the cameraman was wounded in an Israeli drone strike on a shelter in Khan Younis in southern Gaza on Friday while he was reporting there. He later died as he was unable to receive medical treatment. The broadcaster said in a statement on Saturday, "Al Jazeera Media Network reiterates its denunciation and condemnation of the assassination crime of its colleague, Samer Abudaqa, who devoted 19 years with the Network to covering the ongoing conflict in the occupied Palestinian territories." The network stressed it will take every possible means to ensure those responsible will be properly punished. The statement also said the network has instructed its legal team to swiftly refer the case to the prosecutor of the ICC in The Hague. An international organization, the Committee to Protect Journalists, says that as of Sunday, at least 64 journalists and media workers have been killed in the fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas militants.
