Hurricane Idalia has battered the Gulf Coast of Florida with winds of more than 200 kilometers per hour. Idalia make landfall on Wednesday at around 8 a.m. local time as a Category 3 hurricane. More than 1 million people were ordered to evacuate before water started inundating their streets, cars, and homes. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said, "We're still assessing what is all going on the ground in the places that had the initial impact." Forecasters say that Wednesday's "supermoon," which refers to a full moon whose orbit comes closest to Earth, may have raised tides and prompted more flooding. Idalia is projected to take a path up the Atlantic Coast before turning and heading out into the ocean.
