Japan's Imperial Household Agency says Prince Hisahito will attend a university in Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, and sometimes stay in a nearby apartment. Prince Hisahito is the son of Crown Prince and Princess Akishino and second in line to the throne. He graduated from high school earlier this month, and will begin his studies at the University of Tsukuba's School of Life and Environmental Sciences in April. The campus is located in the city of Tsukuba, about 60 kilometers from where he lives at the Akasaka Estate in Tokyo. The commute there takes about an hour and a half to two hours. A Household Agency official told reporters on Friday that Prince Hisahito will travel to the university by car. But the official said that the Prince may also occasionally use a rented apartment near the university. The official said the agency will rent a single-person room in a private residential complex in Tsukuba. He said Prince Hisahito will stay there when his classes or other activities run late, or when he has early classes the next day. The Prince turned 18 last September. His Coming of Age Ceremony is scheduled for September 6 this year. Afterwards he is expected to perform duties as an Imperial family member while prioritizing his studies.
