Japan's Meteorological Agency says a volcano in Indonesia experienced a large eruption at around 8 p.m. local time on Wednesday. It was feared that the blast at Mount Ruang could generate tsunami due to air pressure waves. But agency officials say more than two hours after the eruption, no significant changes in tide levels have been observed along the coasts of Japan and other countries. The agency has been issuing such information following a massive undersea volcanic eruption in Tonga in the South Pacific two years ago as it triggered surges in sea levels in waters surrounding Japan. The officials are continuing to monitor the situation and are urging people in Japan to be on the alert.
