Irene Cara, 'Flash Dance' singer and actress dies NHK

Grammy winning American singer and actress Irene Cara has died at the age of 63.

Cara appeared in the 1980 film "Fame" and sang the title song.

She also sang the title track of 1983 movie "Flash Dance" for which she won an Academy Award and a Grammy Award.

According to media reports, Cara was born in 1959. She began singing and dancing in her childhood which led to appearances on various TV programs and stages.

Her publicist said on Twitter that she was found dead on Friday in her Florida home and the cause of death is not known.

The publicist described Cara as "beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films."
