Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said his country is aiming for full control of the Gaza Strip.



Netanyahu released a video message on Monday, after Israel began to expand its military operation in Gaza last Friday. Netanyahu said Israel is going to control all parts of the strip, adding "that's what we're going to do."



Israel's military said it deployed ground troops to strategic locations and conducted airstrikes on more than 160 targets, including Hamas strongholds.



Health authorities in Gaza on Monday said 136 people have been killed in the past 24 hours.



Residents of Gaza have been facing severe shortages of food as Israel halted the entry of humanitarian aid into the enclave in March.



Israel announced on Sunday that deliveries would resume, but said it would only allow in a minimal amount of supplies.



On Monday, five UN trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered Gaza.



But it remains to be seen whether enough food will be brought in for the over two million residents of the area.
