Ohtani meets high school rival Fujinami in Major League Baseball NHK

Japanese pitcher Fujinami Shintaro of the Oakland Athletics made a bitter major league debut against the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday. He faced two-way star Ohtani Shohei, a rival from his days in high school baseball.

Fujinami started the team's second game of the regular season at home. He moved to the Athletics from the Hanshin Tigers in Japan.

Fujinami and Ohtani were in the same year in high school and their face-offs excited many fans.

Fujinami got off to a good start with his splitters. He forced Ohtani to ground out in the first inning after striking out two batters in a row.

However, in the third, Fujinami got into trouble with his control. He gave up two runs, allowing the Angels to open the scoring.
