Sunday will be another scorching day in Japan. A high of 39 degrees Celsius is expected in Yamanashi Prefecture's Kofu City and Saitama Prefecture's Kumagaya City. The mercury is due to hit 38 degrees in Gunma Prefecture's Maebashi City, Iwate Prefecture's Ichinoseki City, Kyoto City, Saitama City, and Fukushima City. A high of 37 degrees is forecast for Nagano Prefecture's Matsumoto City, Fukui City and central Tokyo. Japan's Meteorological Agency and the country's environment ministry warn that the risk of developing heatstroke is extremely high. They have issued heatstroke alerts for most parts of the country. The intense heat is expected to continue through Friday. Environment ministry officials say heatstroke-related deaths tend to surge, when intense heat continues. The number of people suffering from heatstroke is rising. Some individuals have died. The officials are calling on people to remain vigilant, use air-conditioners, and stay hydrated. They are also urging people to avoid going outdoors, unless it is absolutely necessary.
