Iran demands compensation as condition for resuming nuclear talks with US NHK

A: Hey there! Heard any news lately?
B: Nah, what's up?

A: Well, you know our friend Abbas Araghchi from Iran? He spoke with Financial Times.
B: Oh, really? What did he say?

A: He said that the US needs to make amends for the past before they can talk about their nuclear program again.
B: What do you mean by 'make amends'?

A: He means that Iran wants guarantees that they won't be attacked during talks, like what happened in June.
B: Oof, I see. That sounds tricky...

A: Yeah, and the US has been asking Iran to stop enriching uranium. But now, with these new conditions, it might make things even tougher for negotiations.
B: Seems like both sides have their demands. Hope they can find a way to talk again!

Iran's foreign minister says the United States must agree to pay financial compensation before talks can be resumed on Tehran's nuclear program.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi commented on the possible resumption of nuclear talks with the US in a Financial Times interview published on Thursday.

Iran and the US began holding discussions in April, but the negotiations were suspended after Israel and the US attacked Iranian nuclear facilities in June.

Araghchi said "Anti-negotiation feelings are very high" and "People are telling me, 'Don't waste your time anymore, don't be cheated by them.'" He claimed that the attacks had deepened distrust of President Donald Trump.

He said that in order to resume the talks, Iran needs assurances that it will not be attacked during negotiations again.

The US has been demanding that Iran abandon its uranium enrichment program.

Observers say Iran's new conditions could create more obstacles for restarting the talks.
