Hotels and other forms of accommodation in Japan racked up a record-number of stays by overseas guests in October. The Japan Tourism Agency puts the preliminary figure at 11.8 million, the highest ever for the month. The number is up 463 percent from a year earlier. It also marks a 15-percent rise compared to the same month in 2019, before the pandemic. The number of stays by Japanese guests stood at 41.3 million, down 1.5 percent year on year. That puts the total number in October at 53.1 million, up just over 20 percent from the same time last year.
