Thousands of residents in northern Canada have been forced to evacuate due to an approaching wildfire. The fire has spread over the past week. Footage taken last Sunday shows the sky turning red. Local authorities in the Northwest Territories issued an evacuation order on Wednesday for about 20,000 residents of Yellowknife, the region's capital, and nearby areas. The city is a popular aurora-viewing spot. Evacuation flights are also being provided for those who are unable to leave by car. People with luggage formed a long line outside a high school that is being used as an evacuation center. A woman said the smoke is scary. Local authorities say the fire is about 15 kilometers northwest of Yellowknife, and could reach the area by Saturday if there is no rain. The Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre says there are more than 1,000 active fires across the country. They have reportedly burned about 140,000 square kilometers of land so far this year.
