Japanese gov't aircraft carrying medical equipment heads to Turkey NHK

A Japanese government aircraft carrying medical equipment is heading to Turkey following last week's massive earthquakes.

The plane departed from the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Chitose Air Base in Hokkaido on Monday morning and arrived around noon at Narita Airport near Tokyo.

It was then loaded with about 15 tons of supplies, including tents, beds and operating tables before taking off just after 3 p.m. for Turkey.

The plane is expected to arrive at an airport in southern Turkey as early as Tuesday, Japan time. The equipment and supplies will be delivered by land to a base of the Japanese medical team in a disaster-hit area.

A group of 36 doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other personnel departed on Sunday for Turkey from Tokyo.
