Ukraine's ambassador to Japan, Sergiy Korsunsky, has stressed that his country will be at the table for peace talks. Korsunsky made the comment at a news conference in Tokyo on Tuesday, one day after the third anniversary of the start of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Referring to talks between the United States and Russia for a ceasefire, the ambassador said US President Donald Trump has requested senior members of his administration to enter into consultations with Russians to understand what their vision is. He said Ukraine has delivered to the White House its vision of peace and the present situation, and the country will continue to do so. Korsunsky said, "Definitely at the stage when we will seriously negotiate the peace plan, Ukraine will be at the table." He said that some compromises may be needed, but it is absolutely paramount to see what kind of security guarantees will be behind the ceasefire. The ambassador also said, "I do believe that we will see a kind of ceasefire this year," indicating that intensive discussions for a ceasefire are taking place among countries including European nations.
