A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson has said the Japanese government's statement related to Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae's remark about Taiwan is hardly adequate.
In a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the Japanese government decided on a written reply to a question from an opposition lawmaker on Takaichi's remark over a possible Taiwan emergency.
The reply says the Takaichi administration totally maintains the conventional position of making judgments objectively and rationally by comprehensively considering all available information.
Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning told a news conference on Wednesday that Tokyo's statement continues to repeat that the government's position is consistent and unchanged. She said it is hardly adequate. Mao also said, "The Japanese side should honestly, accurately and fully articulate what that consistent position is."
Asked about Takaichi's comment at the Diet on Wednesday, the spokesperson said: "China's stance is clear. We ask Japan to retract the erroneous remarks and honor its political commitments to China through concrete actions."
