UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly called on the international community not to reduce its support for Rohingya refugees. Guterres visited refugee camps in Cox's Bazar in southern Bangladesh on Friday. The area is home to about a million Rohingya Muslims, who have fled persecution in neighboring Myanmar. The UN says the number of children in the camps needing emergency treatment for severe acute malnutrition has surged. Guterres said the United States and several other countries, mainly Europe, have recently announced dramatic cuts in humanitarian aid. He warned that the moves could lead to reductions in food rations for Rohingya refugees. Guterres said, "We cannot accept that the international community forgets about the Rohingyas."
