Malaysia's former prime minister is under investigation on allegations of corruption and money laundering during his term in office. Ismail Sabri Yaakob has promised to cooperate with the probe.



The former leader appeared at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday and Friday for questioning.



The investigation focuses on the spending and acquisition of government funds for publicity and promotion during his tenure from 2021 to 2022.



Investigators also raided the residences of several of his former aids, and other locations. They seized about 38 million dollars' worth of cash and 16 kilograms of gold bars.
Ismail Sabri took office in 2021 after his predecessor, Muhyiddin Yassin, stepped down over his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.



He handed over power to current leader Anwar Ibrahim after losing a general election in 2022. The defeat made him Malaysia's shortest serving prime minister.
