Officials from the western Japanese prefecture of Ehime were in Beijing for an event to promote their area's products. The event was held at the Japanese Embassy in the Chinese capital on Saturday. About 150 people, including social media influencers and Beijing residents, visited. The exhibition showcased Ehime's signature products, such as mandarin orange juice, sake, pearls and towels. Visitors sampled beverages and picked up items to check their quality. Each product was shown with a QR code that leads to a shopping website accessible from China. One visitor said he will use the website right away to buy juice and towels. China's economic outlook is increasingly uncertain on the back of a prolonged slump in the real estate market and a tough employment situation. But there is still a high level of interest in Japanese products and culture, especially among the wealthy. An Ehime official said the prefecture aims to develop overseas sales channels as the Japanese market is expected to shrink.
