Thailand's Election Commission says it will seek the dissolution of the Move Forward Party, which won the most seats in last year's general election. The party had called for reform of the monarchy. The commission announced on Tuesday that it unanimously decided to ask the Constitutional Court to disband the Move Forward Party. It said there is reasonable evidence that the party sought to overthrow the country's constitutional monarchy system. Move Forward won last May's election after campaigning on a pledge to amend a law that makes it illegal to insult Thailand's royal family. But Move Forward was excluded from the coalition government and it became an opposition party. Some conservatives called for disbanding the group. The Constitutional Court ruled in January that the party's plan to modify Thailand's lese majeste law is unconstitutional. If the court decides to order Move Forward to dissolve, that could spark a sharp reaction from supporters including young people.
