Japan weather officials forecast snow in Tokyo on Sunday NHK

The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts snow in central Tokyo and surrounding areas on Sunday.

Agency officials say a cold air mass will flow in as a low-pressure system with a front moves east along the southern coast of the main island of Honshu.

They say snow is expected to pile up mainly in mountainous areas in the Kanto-Koshin regions.

In the 24 hours through Sunday evening, up to 10 centimeters of snow is expected in the Koshin region, 7 centimeters in the Hakone area and western Tokyo, and 3 centimeters in flatlands of the southern Kanto region, including Tokyo's 23 wards.

The officials warn that if snow piles up in the Tokyo area, which usually has little snowfall, public transportation systems could be disrupted. They are also urging people to be careful of icy roads.
