Germany is tightening its anti-coronavirus measures for restaurant and bar visits, while also shortening quarantine periods.
                
Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Friday that people wishing to enter a hospitality venue must show a negative COVID-19 test along with proof of vaccination. But the negative test will not be required for those who have had a booster shot.
                
Scholz also announced shorter quarantine times for infected people and their contacts.
                
The period for contacts with people infected with the Omicron variant will be reduced to seven days from the current 14, if they have tested negative. Quarantine will not be required for those who have had booster shots.
                
The revisions come amid rising concern that healthcare systems could be overburdened by demand for quarantine services, due to the highly transmissible Omicron variant.
                
The chancellor called on people to help the country out of its current situation by getting vaccinated and reducing social contact.
                
Germany logged a record of more than 76,000 daily cases in November last year. New infections then slowed, before recently resurging to around 60,000.
