Bullet train services on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line linking Tokyo and northern Japan were suspended on Thursday morning due to a problem with a railroad switch at one of the stations. Services were partially resumed at around 11:00 a.m. Trains are now running between Tokyo and Koriyama stations, and Sendai and Shin-Aomori. But operations are still suspended between Koriyama and Sendai stations as of 11:50 a.m. East Japan Railway says the turnout switch that allows trains to change tracks failed at Koriyama Station in Fukushima Prefecture at around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday. The operator says they need to replace the malfunctioning switch and they plan to fully resume services at around 1:30 p.m. East Japan Railway is investigating the cause of the glitch.
