Chinese social media sites are full of calls to condemn Japan after it began releasing treated and diluted water into the ocean from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

Posts on the Weibo social media platform urge readers to condemn Japan for releasing what they call "nuclear contaminated water" and include Japanese phone numbers.

One of the posted phone numbers was that of the Upper House of the Diet.

One video reportedly shows a man calling an organization in Tokyo and asking in Chinese why what he calls "nuclear contaminated water" is being released.

Officials at the Japanese Consulate-General in Qingdao, Shandong Province in China, said a Chinese person had thrown rocks into the compound of a Japanese school.

The officials say the incident took place on Thursday, the day when the release of the treated water began.

They say that there was no damage to the school building and no pupil was hurt, adding that the man was detained by police.
