Tsunami warnings issued in South Pacific countries NHK

Tsunami warnings have been issued across a wide area of the South Pacific.

The US Tsunami Warning Center says a magnitude 7.6 earthquake was recorded off the island nation of Tonga at UTC 06:40 on Saturday.

AP says a tsunami warning was put into effect across the country soon after.

Reuters says Fiji has also issued a tsunami warning.
New Zealand's emergency management agency issued a tsunami advisory for its north and east coast.

Tsunami waves can cause major damage. People in the region are advised to move away from coastal areas and listen to local authorities for information and instructions.
