World leaders take Davos online NHK

The pandemic has forced the organizers of the World Economic Forum to postpone their annual gathering. Still, world leaders went online Monday to discuss everything from the pandemic to climate change.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called on delegates to discard their "Cold War mentality." He criticized those who put themselves in what he called "exclusive small circles" that polarize the world.

Xi called for global cooperation in tackling the pandemic. He pledged an additional one billion doses of vaccine for countries in Africa and Southeast Asia.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Indians, too, are saving lives with the drugs they produce. He said his country would be a trusted partner in global supply chains.

Modi said growth in India over the next 25 years will be "green, clean, and sustainable." United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres encouraged both India and China to transition to clean energy.
