Tokyo Metropolitan Government officials reported more than 14,000 new cases of coronavirus infection on Wednesday, marking a record high for a second straight day.
The officials say they confirmed 14,086 new infections, up more than 1,200 from the previous day.
The latest tally is also a record for a Wednesday, marking a rise of roughly 1.9 times, or over 6,700, from the previous high on January 19.
The officials also say the capital has 18 patients with serious COVID-19 symptoms, up four from Tuesday.
