A light plane heading for the Nazca Lines in southern Peru has crashed, killing all seven people on board. Peru's transport ministry said in a statement that the aircraft went down shortly after taking off from an airport in the city of Nazca at around noon on Friday. It was heading for the UNESCO World Heritage Nazca Lines which are about 20 kilometers from the airport. There were five tourists from the Netherlands and Chile and two crew members on board. Footage shows the wrecked and charred aircraft which was operated by a local company that offers sightseeing flights over the Nazca Lines. The archeological site is home to a number of gigantic geoglyphs estimated to have been created between around 500 BC and 500 AD. The Peruvian transport ministry has offered condolences to the victims' families. It is investigating the cause of the crash.
