Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says he has tested positive for the coronavirus. Erdogan wrote on Twitter on Saturday that he and his wife had tested positive for COVID-19 and are experiencing slight symptoms of the Omicron variant. The Turkish president met his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday in Kyiv amid Russia's military buildup along its border with Ukraine. Erdogan also expressed his intention to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to Turkey in an effort to become a mediator to facilitate the easing of tensions between Ukraine and Russia. While Erdogan tweeted that he would continue to work at home, it seems difficult for him to meet the Russian president in person for the time being. Turkey is scrambling to deal with a record spike in the number of coronavirus cases. Its daily tally of new infections topped 111,000 on Friday for the first time.
