French President Emmanuel Macron is among the world leaders pursuing diplomacy to resolve the Ukraine crisis. He wants to use his nation's alliance with Germany and Poland to "avoid war." The three countries formed the Weimar Triangle in the 1990s as Poland emerged from communist rule. They wanted to cooperate in times of crisis. The same holds true today. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has stated, "Any further breach of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty is unacceptable, and will draw consequences for Russia --politically, economically and geostrategically." Polish President Andrzej Duda has said, "This is the most difficult situation NATO and the European Union have faced since 1989, or at least the most difficult in which Central Europe and Europe have found themselves in since then." The three leaders have agreed to work together to restart a dialogue between the Russians and the Ukrainians. Thousands of US soldiers are stationed in Poland and Germany. President Joe Biden recently ordered 3,000 additional US troops to Romania, Poland and Germany to serve as a deterrent against a Russian attack.
