Forecasters say a low pressure system will develop off the Pacific coast of central Japan by Thursday morning. They say it will move east as it grows. They add that a cold air mass is expected to flow into the Kanto-Koshin region.
It will reportedly bring snow to the region and to Shizuoka Prefecture on Thursday and Friday.
Snow will start falling in Nagano and Yamanashi prefectures early on Thursday. It will begin to fall in the southern Kanto region and Shizuoka Prefecture around dawn. Snow may accumulate in Tokyo and the flatlands of southern Kanto.
A maximum of 20 to 40 centimeters of snow is expected to fall in the 24 hours through Friday morning in Yamanashi Prefecture. Ten to 20 centimeters are forecast for Nagano and Shizuoka prefectures, northern Kanto and areas near the mountains in southern Kanto.
Five to 10 centimeters are expected in the plains of southern Kanto including Tokyo.
