The Italian government is easing its outdoor mask mandate in response to an improving coronavirus situation. Reuters news agency reported the decision by Italy's government on Tuesday to end its outdoor mask requirement under most circumstances, starting on Friday. The report said masks will still be necessary in crowded areas and at indoor public venues until March 31. The number of daily new infections topped 220,000 in Italy in January as the Omicron variant spread. But the case count has been declining this month, hovering around 100,000. European countries are easing outdoor mask mandates one after another. France ended its outdoor mask requirement a week ago. Spain will lift a similar mandate on Thursday. Britain dropped its mask requirement in indoor public spaces in England on January 27.
