TV Asahi, a major Japanese commercial broadcaster, says its president Kameyama Keiji has resigned after an internal probe found he misused company money.
The broadcaster says Kameyama was in charge of some sporting events and had traveled around the country to attend the events and conduct promotional activities.
It says part of his trips, dining with others, playing golf and other spending were nothing to do with his business, but he falsely claimed expenses of around 5,200 dollars to the company.
The company says Kameyama caused confusion due to poor communications with the head of its sports department, and the firm also confirmed his conduct was not appropriate as the president.
A board meeting on Thursday accepted Kameyama's resignation.
His misuse of company money came to light during an internal probe by a panel into a series of scandals involving its sports department members. Kameyama was also overseeing the department.
Kameyama became the president in 2019, after serving as the head of the programming department, and a board member.
Kameyama reportedly said he is sorry that he caused the company so much trouble.
TV Asahi issued a statement, apologizing that the scandal goes against the trust of viewers, sponsors, shareholders, and everyone else concerned.
