Officials in Tokyo reported more than 13,000 new cases of the coronavirus on Sunday -- the fifth straight day of week-on-week declines. The daily tally in the capital is down more than 4,400 from the same day last week. The hospital bed occupancy rate is 58.8 percent. The quasi-state of emergency for Tokyo and 12 other prefectures is being extended from Monday. This will give officials the authority to take stricter measures. Gifu is one of the prefectures that has extended the restrictions. The number of visitors at a ski resort has dropped to nearly two-thirds of the figure before the quasi-state of emergency. Deputy manager Yamashita Fumio at Hirugano Kogen Ski Resort said, "We'd been looking forward to the lifting of the restrictions. The extension is disappointing as it will have a serious impact on our business." Health authorities across Japan reported more than 77,000 new cases on Sunday. Over 1,300 people are in serious condition.
