Snow may pile up in some parts of Kanto, sparing central Tokyo NHK

Japan's weather agency says snow may pile up in some parts of the Tokyo greater area on Monday, possibly causing traffic disruptions due to icy roads. But it says central Tokyo will be spared of heavy snow.

The Meteorological Agency says a low pressure system has been bringing snow, mainly to mountainous areas.

As of 4 a.m. on Monday, 20 centimeters of snow was observed in Suwa City in Nagano Prefecture and 3 centimeters was recorded in Chichibu City in Saitama Prefecture.

People in areas with snow are advised to prepare for possible delays or suspensions of railway and bus services. Pedestrians should also take care not to slip and fall on icy streets and sidewalks.

More than 30 domestic flights have been canceled due to the snow. Airlines are calling on people to check the latest information on their websites.
