American speed skater Erin Jackson wins gold NHK

In the Beijing Olympic Games, American speed skater Erin Jackson claimed the gold in the women's 500-meter race on Sunday.

Jackson crossed the finish line in a time of 37.04 seconds. She became the first African-American woman to win an Olympic medal in an individual speed skating event.

The world cup leader missed out on automatic Olympic qualification at the 2022 US trials, but made the team after race winner Brittany Bowe gave up her spot in favor of Jackson.

The silver medal went to Japan's Takagi Miho. She is already the most decorated Japanese athlete competing in winter Olympics, and this silver brought her medal tally to five.

Takagi will compete in the 1,000-meter race on Thursday, aiming to win her first gold medal in an individual event.
